Abstract
Background: Obesity is a serious health concern due to its contribution to the development of various chronic diseases. Obesity occurs as a result of excessive accumulation of adipose tissue caused by an imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. Excessive food consumption combined with low energy expenditure due to physical inactivity can lead to obesity. Diet applications are digital tools that assist users in monitoring daily food intake and physical activity, thereby supporting weight loss efforts, particularly among individuals with obesity.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of diet applications in weight loss among obese adults.
Materials and Methods: The method used is a Literature Review of seven scientific articles sourced from Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect using the keywords “Obese Adults,” “BMI Adults”, “Digital”, “Online Platform”, “Diet Application”, “Dietary Pattern”, “Nutrition”, “Obesity and Weight Loss”.
Results: The results showed that obese adults who received an intervention through the use of diet applications experienced significant weight loss compared to control groups of obese adults who did not use such applications.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the use of diet applications has a positive effect on weight loss and body mass index among adults with obesity.
